Wings of Fury is an action game with some minor simulation aspects, in which you are the pilot of an American F6F Hellcat plane. The setting of the game is the Pacific during World War II.
You are tasked with defeating the Japanese by destroying enemy bunkers, machine gun nests and barracks on a series of islands. You can use regular bombs to bomb these targets, while using rockets to take out concrete bunkers. After successfully targeting these sites, you'll need to engage in dogfights with enemy fighter planes.
Additionally, your mission includes sinking Japanese battleships with torpedoes and protecting the aircraft carrier from assaults by enemy planes. You can replenish fuel, bombs, rockets and machine gun ammo as needed by returning to the carrier, where you can also repair damage to your plane.
The Wings of Fury game for the Amiga features a more action-packed experience, while the Gameboy Color version has a toned down violence level. In this version, you focus on destroying jeeps and trucks instead of enemy soldiers, and some gameplay mechanics have been changed or removed.
