Head Buster is a future sports game about robots on a top-down, horizontally scrolling playfield. Armed robots are moved around in a manner similar to strategy games, but with fewer refinements than those series.
Each game starts at the shop, where robots are bought and equipped according to your tastes and finances. The goal is not explicitly to destroy the opposing team's robots, but to destroy their base. In order to reach their base and prevent them from reaching yours, a certain amount of fighting is required. Each turn is split into a movement phase and a combat phase, with actions executed when a phase is over.
Robots are available in three basic classes, which can be modified with new movement units, better armour, and new weapons. Different weapons have different strengths and ranges, as well as limited supplies of bullets. Robots can also be equipped with sensors and command units, giving them better aim or special abilities such as dodging, shielding, and healing.
