Valis III begins with Yuko defeating the evil Rogles, bringing peace to Earth and the magical world of Vecanti. However, a new threat emerges in the form of Glames from the Dark World, who seeks to conquer both Earth and Vecanti using his powerful sword Leethus. A young girl named Cham escapes from Glames and asks Yuko for help in stopping him.
Players control Yuko, Cham, or princess Valna as they navigate side-scrolling levels to defeat enemies and bosses. Each character has unique abilities, such as Yamato's magical powers or Cham's whip-fighting skills. The game features a mix of action and exploration elements, with players able to equip different weapons and magic spells for each character.
