Battlefield 2

The multiplayer mode allows up to 24 players to compete in Conquest or Capture the Flag modes. In these modes, players must capture flags and maintain control of them until their enemy team's timer runs out, or launch a full-scale attack to retrieve an enemy flag and return it to their own base. A single-player campaign follows the story of China and the USA as they clash in Kazakhstan. The campaign features a narrative approach, with news reports providing insight into both sides of the conflict.

The game also introduces a new Hot Swap feature, which allows players to quickly switch between allied troops on the battlefield, saving time and positioning themselves for the next attack or defense.
