Ballblazer , released in 1988 , is a futuristic soccer-like game where humans from Earth compete for honor and the title Masterblazer in the Ballblazer Championship. The objective of the player, inside a Rotofoil on a 1,155 square Grid playing field, is to kick a floating Plasmorb into the opponent's Goalbeams.
The Rotofoil is equipped with a multi-purpose forcefield that helps the player by pulling the Plasmorb towards them when close and launching it in the desired direction when shot. The player must move down the field, attempt to gain possession of the Plasmorb using the joystick, and blast it to an intended direction. However, the Goldbeams on the Grid move slightly every second and get closer as the match progresses.
The game has a scoring system where close-in goals are worth 1 point, goals near Goldbeams are worth 2 points, and Over The Horizon shots are worth 3 points. Players can also steal points from each other by making goals. The total combined score of both players cannot exceed 10 points, and a player winning 10 consecutive points automatically wins the game.
