The The Lawnmower Man game is based on the 1992 feature film of the same name. The plot follows Dr. Angelo, controlled by the player, as he ventures into cyberspace to confront the digital god Jobe, created by himself. Jobe manipulates the virtual world with challenges to test the player's skills.
The gameplay consists of a series of minigames inspired by the movie's virtual reality sequences. These include digital IQ tests, chase sequences requiring precise timing for jumping and ducking, tunnel flight as one of the virtual jets from the movie, and quick time events against Jobe's digitized henchmen.
The game uses pre-rendered and streamed graphics from the movie files, functioning like an interactive movie. However, basic controls are limited in each minigame, resulting in long "game over" videos without branching paths after failure to hit the right button at the right time.
