Based on the legendary Dune , a strategy-adventure hybrid game inspired by Frank Herbert's novel of the same name and visually inspired by David Lynch's 1984 movie, players take on the role of young Paul Atreides, son of Duke Leto. The Emperor Shaddam Corrino IV has given the Atreides House the rights to manage the extraction of the most precious substance in the universe - the Melange, commonly known as Spice in the desert planet Arrakis (Dune), the only place capable of producing the substance. The player arrives on Arrakis with the mission of contacting and convincing the Fremen tribes residing in sietches to harvest the spice. Harvesting is crucial for purchasing equipment from smugglers and appeasing the emperor. Players can equip the tribes with harvesters to increase production or ornis to protect them from Shai-Hulud, the sandworms.
The spice doesn't last forever, and new sietches must be prospected before a mining crew is assigned. However, players cannot run southwards forever, as the Harkonnen enemy controls the north of the planet, dangerously close to the Atreides Palace. As the initial batches are sent to the Emperor, players will have to actively deal with the Harkonnen, who will try to take control of player sietches.
Players must manage Paul's reputation by controlling Arrakis, assign Fremen tribes to military training with Gurney Halleck, and unlock Paul's latent powers. Along the way, they'll meet other characters from the Dune universe, including Duke Leto, Jessica, Thufir Hawat, Duncan Idaho, Harah, Chani, Stilgar, and Liet Kynes.
