Kid Trunks is a playable fighter featured across the Dragon Ball Z Budokai and Budokai Tenkaichi series, debuting in Dragon Ball Z Budokai 2. In these games, he is depicted as a fast, agile character capable of transforming into a Super Saiyan. He can also perform the Fusion Dance with Goten during battles to form the powerful character Gotenks.
While absent as a playable character in the original
Dragon Ball Z Budokai (2002), where only his future counterpart appeared, the child version of the character became a staple of subsequent Dimps-developed fighting games. His inclusion in
Dragon Ball Z Budokai 2 (2003) expanded the roster to encompass the Majin Buu story arc. This presence continued through
Dragon Ball Z Budokai 3 (2004) and its European re-release,
Dragon Ball Z Budokai 3 - Édition Collector (2005), where his moveset was refined with advanced capsule customization options.
With the transition to the 3D arena-fighting format developed by Spike, the character transitioned seamlessly into
Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi (2005). He retained his prominent role in
Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 2 (2006) and
Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3 (2007). In these titles, his gameplay leveraged the behind-the-back camera perspective, allowing players to utilize his signature energy attacks, such as the Double Buster and Victory Cannon, across massive destructible environments. His representation across these two major PlayStation 2-era sub-series cemented his status as a core roster selection.
