Originally established as Interactive Studios, the company rebranded as Blitz Games in 1999. They developed numerous licensed games for consoles and PC, including Frogger 2: Swampy's Revenge and Chicken Run. The studio operated in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, until its closure in 2013.
Founded by industry veterans Philip and Andrew Oliver, the developer built its early reputation on high-profile licensed intellectual properties. During a prolific period in 2000, the studio delivered several major releases for platforms like the PlayStation and Game Boy Color. These included the action-adventure titles
Action Man Operation EXtreme and
Action Man Destruction X, alongside the Disney-licensed release
Little Mermaid II.
To streamline multi-platform production, the company developed its own proprietary middleware engine, BlitzTech, which remained a cornerstone of their development pipeline for over a decade. This technology allowed them to efficiently port titles across various console generations. Beyond licensed family entertainment, the studio expanded its portfolio by establishing specialized divisions. These included Volatile Games, which focused on mature-rated content, and Blitz Arcade, dedicated to downloadable digital titles. Following the wind-down of operations, the founders and many former staff members transitioned to new ventures within the UK game industry, including the creation of Radiant Worlds, ensuring the team's technical expertise continued to influence the regional development scene.
