About

The Chibi Maruko-chan video game series adapted the slice-of-life comedy manga into various interactive formats during the early 1990s. Key releases include the Game Boy titles Chibi Maruko-chan (1991) and Chibi Maruko-chan 2: Deluxe Maruko World (1991), alongside Super Famicom games like Chibi Maruko-chan: Harikiri 365-Nichi no Maki (1991) and Chibi Maruko-Chan 3: Mezase! Game Taishou no Maki (1992). These games typically featured board game mechanics, mini-games, and trivia elements based on the daily life of the titular character, Maruko.

Developed primarily for Japanese domestic markets, these adaptations capitalized on the immense popularity of Momoko Sakura's anime broadcast. Publisher Takara spearheaded many of these releases, expanding the franchise beyond Nintendo platforms. For the Sega Mega Drive, Chibi Maruko-chan: Waku Waku Shopping (1992) offered a virtual shopping-themed experience. Handheld support remained strong on the Game Boy with Chibi Maruko-Chan 4: Korega Nippon Dayo! Oujisama (1992) and Chibi Maruko-Chan: Maruko Deluxe Gekijou (1995), which continued to refine the series' signature variety-style gameplay.

The transition to fifth-generation consoles brought Chibi Maruko-Chan: Issho Ni Asobou Yo (1995) to the Sega Saturn. This release leveraged CD-ROM storage to integrate high-quality audio, voice acting from the official anime cast, and detailed animations. Through these diverse releases, the franchise established a significant footprint in the licensed character game market of the 1990s, serving as a bridge between traditional manga fandom and interactive home entertainment.
