Menu Navigation
Main Menu
From the Main Menu, you can jump into a hunt in Open Seasons, begin Adventure mode, learn more in Help, check High Scores, adjust settings in Options, or view Credits.
Open Seasons Mode
This is a quick, pick-up-and-play mode. Open Seasons places you in a randomly selected hunt location from those completed in Adventure mode. Your deer limit is also randomly selected.
Both seasons in Washington County, Pennsylvania are immediately available. A gear set and a firearm or bow are automatically equipped for the hunt.
Adventure Mode
This is the main game mode. Each Adventure Hunt is an outfitted trip led by your Outdoor Guide. There are two different hunting seasons in each location to complete.
Before any hunt, visit Cabela's® to buy and equip necessary gear. During a hunt, you will have opportunities to hunt deer, other animals, and even go fishing.
Stay alert for Instant Actions from the Outdoor Guide or Warden. These surprise objectives offer extra trophies, cash, and Reputation Points. Avoid breaking hunting regulations to prevent penalties.
To begin, select a character and create a Profile or load a previously saved Profile. Purchase any required gear for your adventure at Cabela's. Previously purchased gear can be equipped in Your Gear.

After selecting Adventure mode, you can load a previously saved profile or create a new one. Load any saved profile from your memory card (8MB) (for PlayStation®2).
When creating a new profile, all options are set to default for the selected difficulty. If no difficulty is chosen, Greenhorn is selected by default.
Create Profile
Creating a profile allows you to choose a name, create a character, and select the difficulty level for Adventure mode. Customize your character's appearance by selecting from different looks, hat styles, and hair.
Character Details
Character selection is important as each character has different skill levels. There are five hunting attributes to consider for each character. View the Details screen to see each type's attribute levels.
Attribute Descriptions
•
Accuracy: Influences how well you shoot.
•
Strength: Determines how much gear you can equip before becoming overloaded. Equipping too much will cause you to tire quickly.
•
Stealth: Determines how quickly animals will sense your presence.
•
Resilience: Affects how quickly you get tired.
•
Tracking: Impacts how well you can find and identify animal tracks in the wild.
Choose the character with attributes that best suit you. These attributes will increase as you progress through Adventure mode and complete tasks and hunting achievements.
Rank and Reputation Points
In Adventure mode, you earn Reputation Points for completing objectives in Hunts, Contests, and Missions. These points increase your character's Rank, indicating your skill as a hunter. You start as a Rookie and can advance to a 4-Star Expert.
Expert Hunters
There are 5 Expert Hunters available for selection when creating a character. Three are locked and become available only after completing all Hunts in Adventure mode on different Difficulty Levels.
Difficulty Levels
Greenhorn
On Greenhorn, hunters benefit from animal tracking aids. The Mini Map shows animal positions and guides you to them. Lock On secures your aim, and the Bullet Camera follows your shot.
The game is more forgiving of aim. Steady Aim allows temporary control over your aim. Animals are more responsive to calls and have less acute senses. They are more frequent, but trophy scores may be smaller.
Sportsman
Sportsman is for more experienced hunters. Animal frequency is decreased, and luring animals is more difficult and requires patience. Steady Aim is available, but Lock On is not. The Mini Map remains available. Poor aim is penalized more severely, and misses are more common.
Simulation
Simulation offers a true hunting experience. Lures, calls, and decoys are much less effective. Taking down an animal requires stealth, firearm skill, and knowledge of the wild.
The Mini Map, Bullet Camera, Lock On, and Steady Aim are all disabled, and the HUD defaults to OFF. This difficulty level is for experienced hunters.
