iS: internal section is a "tube shooter" in the tradition of Tempest and S.T.U.N. Runner. The game uses flat shaded, untextured polygons to keep a high frame rate in the PlayStation 's high resolution mode. Players have access to twelve different weapons, each named after a sign of the Chinese zodiac. The in-game soundtrack is techno, and much like SCEI's Vib-Ribbon, can dynamically change the environments based off of music from inserted CDs in certain modes. The game is very similar in terms of gameplay and style to Rez, and was released nearly 3 years earlier.
The gameplay involves navigating through a futuristic world while avoiding obstacles and enemies. Players can switch between different weapons to take down enemies and collect power-ups. The game's techno soundtrack complements the fast-paced action, with music that changes dynamically throughout the game. With its unique blend of visuals and sound, iS: internal section is a must-play for fans of shoot'em up games.
