Clock Tower: Rewind is a side-scrolling horror adventure that brings the 1995 Super Famicom classic to modern platforms for the first time in an international release. Originally developed by Human Entertainment, the game has been revitalized using WayForward's Carbon Engine, transforming the original point-and-click experience into a fluid side-scrolling adventure with significant quality-of-life improvements. The story follows Jennifer Simpson, who finds herself trapped in a haunted mansion and must escape the relentless killer stalker Scissorman. The game's plot and visual style draw heavy inspiration from Italian horror director Dario Argento, particularly his 1985 film Phenomena (Inferno Tenebrae), and it is considered a pioneer of the survival horror genre that influenced countless dungeon-crawling horror games. This release features an animated intro and opening and ending vocal theme songs, motion-comic cutscenes that replace the original's static sprites, creator interviews, an art gallery, border artwork, a new music player, save states, and modernized controls that retain the classic feel. Translator's notes and commentary are included throughout. The physical release by Limited Run Games includes Standard and Collector's Editions, with the latter featuring a Barrow's Mansion Clock Tower statuette. A digital version co-published by Sunsoft was also released in Asian regions on October 31, 2024. The game has received positive reception, with scores around 68-70% on review aggregators.
