Grand Prix , released on the Bally Astrocade in 1977, is a formula racing game played from a top-down perspective with two other games, Demolition Derby , within its cartridge. Players can race against each other with up to four participants.
The gameplay of Grand Prix and Demolition Derby involves navigating tracks and competing to reach the finish line first or be the last car remaining in the arena, respectively. In both games, players can select from different track options and adjust their speed levels according to difficulty.
Grand Prix 's controls are straightforward: accelerating forward and turning left or right using the steering wheel. The game features three tracks of varying difficulty and allows players to choose between one and ninety-nine laps. Players also have the option to select a beginner or pro mode, with the latter featuring faster cars.
Demolition Derby builds upon this concept by introducing the element of ramming other cars into each other until only one remains in the arena. Each car has points assigned to it, and losing those points results in the player's elimination.
