International Superstar Soccer Advance is the second Konami football game to appear on the Game Boy Advance, with several updates compared to its predecessor. The game contains 58 national teams, up from 40 in the previous game. There is no longer a license for real players' names, though, so all players are fictional.
The gameplay in International Superstar Soccer Advance focuses on action and adventure as you control your team through matches, friendlies, the international cup, and penalty shootouts. The new Super Star Mode is a series of do-or-die three-minute matches against superstar teams.
The game features a range of options to customize your gameplay experience. You can set a variety of formations and strategies, choose from different weather conditions, stadiums, and referees, and listen to running commentary by Jon Champion. A two-player mode via link cable is also available.
