The game Aliens is based on the 1986 film and is a first-person strategy game similar to Space Hulk. Players control six characters from a remote terminal, guiding them through a 255-room complex in search of the Alien Queen. Each character has a helmet camera and a smart gun, controlled by the player who acts as the overall operational commander.
The player can switch between characters at any time, considering their movements and finding safe locations before switching to the next one. Characters occupy one room at a time and have 360-degree view capabilities inside each room. Doors can be locked or blasted open, with the latter costing permanently destroyed doors. Destroying Alien bio-mass prevents facehuggers from spawning, while killing Aliens leaves lethal puddles of acid.
Aliens prowl the complex, attracted to gunfire and homing in on nearby characters to attack. The player must aim at that character's gun to defend against the rushing Alien (a headshot kills instantly). If an Alien attacks a character not being controlled, it captures them (indicated by a yellow status light). The player must guide another character to rescue them by killing the guarding Alien.
Ammunition is limited for all characters and refilled only by visiting the armory. A medical bay can also replenish damage. Characters have limited stamina, used up with every move made. When stamina is low, the player must find a safe spot for that character to rest. The complex houses a generator controlling lights, which can be destroyed or repaired.
