Astro Boy: The Video Game is a side-scrolling beat 'em up and shoot 'em up combo based on the 2009 animated 3D movie of the long-running character from manga and anime. Astro Boy must save Metro City from President Stone and his robots while fighting through levels on the ground and in the air.
In the game, players can use special attacks, such as an Arm Cannon, Butt Machine Guns and Absorb (recharges a portion of health), once their energy meter is powered enough. Power-ups and costumes can be found in hard-to-reach areas. The game also features single-player and 2-player multiplayer co-op modes.
The single-player mode allows players to continue playing even if one player dies, with the option to rejoin after some time elapses. In contrast, both players must restart the game from the beginning if they both die. An Arena mode also exists where two players compete against each other in a battle with robots.
