Invizimals: The Lost Kingdom is a 3D platformer in the InviZimals series. All the previous entries were collectible creature games for handheld systems using a camera and augmented reality letting players capture monsters in the environment. Capturing creatures is still an important element, but now using more traditional gameplay mechanics. The player controls the young boy Hiro who steals a crystal from the British Museum in London to scientists.
Their goal is to open a portal allowing Hiro to travel into an animated world where the InviZimals are attacked by a robot army. Hiro gets to explore different environments and can capture up to 16 InviZimals, one for each environment, significantly less compared to the hundreds of the earlier games.
He can then directly take control of the InviZimal forms, using their unique abilities to overcome obstacles in the environment and fight enemies. Z sparks can be collected as a currency to upgrade the InviZimals. They grow into a colt and eventually into a max. Controls are limited to jumping, attacking, and a general action.
The game features quick time events and a button-press system for selecting the correct InviZimal for the environment. A certain amount of Z sparks is often needed to progress and open doors. The game was released on September 30th, 2014, for the Playstation 3 and uses cross-platform elements with Invizimals: The Alliance . Players can share InviZimals from the PS3 version and fight against a local Vita player in battle mode.
The two players can also choose to team up and fight another team online. This multiplayer feature allows for a fun cooperative gameplay experience, adding replay value to the game. Overall, Invizimals: The Lost Kingdom offers an action-packed adventure with traditional 3D platforming mechanics.
