In this classic action-adventure game, players assume the role of the heroic knight Dirk the Daring on a perilous quest to rescue Princess Daphne from the evil wizard Mordroc. To succeed, players must navigate treacherous castle battlements, dark interiors, and damp caves while battling a host of mythical enemies like the Lizard King and Giddy Goons. Ultimately, players must survive a final, deadly encounter with the formidable dragon Singe to free the princess and win the game.
Story
The Challenge
Dare you take up the role of Dirk the Daring, and attempt to free the beloved Princess Daphne from the clutches of the evil wizard Mordroc?
To do so, the search will take you across the castle battlements, through the castle interior and down into the dark, dank caves below.
On the way, you must battle serpents, the Lizard King, Giddy Goons, Bats, Ghosts and a host of other enemies. Finally, you must survive an encounter with the formidable Singe, before releasing the Princess.
How to Play
Getting Started
Make sure the power to your Super NES unit is turned OFF. Insert the Game Pak into your Super NES unit and turn the power ON.
The Menu Screen will be displayed. After a few seconds, the introduction and game demonstration sequences will play.
The Menu Screen can be displayed again by pressing the Start, Select, A or B Button at any time during the demonstration mode.
Starting the Game
The game can be started from the Menu Screen in one of two ways:

Press the Start Button.
•
Select the "Start Game" option and press the Select, A, or B Button.
Controls
B Button
Jump (the longer the button is pressed, the higher Dirk will leap) / Swim (if Dirk is in the water, continued pressing of this button will cause him to float)
Y Button
Throw (Dirk will throw his weapon in the direction in which he is facing)

Items & Weapons
Ropes
Dirk can travel up and down levels by using the ropes and flag poles, either by climbing them directly from the floor or jumping across to them.
Weights
Used in conjunction with see-saws to propel weights onto falling platforms that Dirk is not heavy enough to drop alone.
Anvils
Generally dangerous objects, but friendly anvils can be pushed onto fire pots to help Dirk safely cross difficult platforms.
Springs
Springboards located throughout the castle, some of which can be pushed by Dirk into more suitable positions to overcome obstacles.
Sword
Dirk's most potent weapon, always on hand, which requires the enemy to be within swiping distance to obliterate them.
Axe
The default throwing weapon, which is also the weakest.
Dagger
A throwing weapon that fires in a straight line, making it useful when jumping across ledges.
Throwing Star
The most powerful of the three throwing weapons, but it will return and strike Dirk if he misses his target.
Weapon
Throwing weapons hidden within bonus jewels throughout the game map.
Gold
Collecting 10 gold coins from smashed jewels will gain Dirk entrance to the bonus section at the end of the current level.
Heart
Found inside smashed jewels, these give Dirk extra lives.
Tips & Maps
Password Screen
A system where players place colored spheres into correct numbered holes within a time limit to unlock and start from advanced levels on the game map.
Bubbling oil vats
These hazards on the battlements make the platforms very slippery.
Energy shield
If Dirk's energy shield is low, players should search the current level for extra bonus shields.
Baiter dragon
This adversary appears more often the longer Dirk remains on a level, making it important to complete levels quickly.
Extra lives
These are often hidden near difficult parts of a level.
Exits
Some levels have multiple exits, and reaching the harder ones allows Dirk to travel further through the game map.
Yellow barrels
Found on the cave levels, these are highly explosive and can be pushed together.
Swimming
Dirk cannot use weapons while swimming and must avoid adversaries.
Leaping from water
Dirk can leap from the water by quickly and continuously pressing the B Button, and should be directed onto a low platform as he bursts from his bubble.
