Puzzle Bobble is a classic puzzle game released for the Super Nintendo in 1995. The story follows two characters, Bob and Bobbie, who must work together to rescue their friends from the clutches of an evil sorcerer named Negata. With her magical abilities, Negata has trapped the Bobs' friends inside bubbles, and it's up to our heroes to pop those bubbles and save them.
Gameplay in Puzzle Bobble involves blowing bubbles to encase enemies and objects, then popping them to clear levels. As players progress through the game, new abilities are introduced, such as the power-up "Super Bubble," which allows for more powerful bubble shots. The game requires strategy and timing to navigate increasingly complex levels and defeat Negata's minions.

How to Play
Basic Rules of the Game
Shoot bubble balls towards the bubbles arranged on the screen. When you connect three or more bubble balls of the same type, the bubbles will disappear.
If the bubbles cross the final line, it is Game Over.
HURRY UP!
If you do not shoot a bubble ball, "HURRY UP!" will be displayed and a countdown will begin. When the time runs out, a bubble ball will be shot automatically.
Title Screen
Pressing any of the X1 to X4 buttons, START button, A button, or B button on the title screen will take you to the Mode Select screen. If you do nothing for a while, a game demo will play.
Mode Select Screen
Use the Y2 and Y4 buttons to move the cursor up and down to select a game mode. Press any of the X1 to X4 buttons, START button, A button, or B button to confirm your selection.
•
Single Player (1人で遊ぼうかな): A single-player round-clear mode. Clear the round by popping all the bubbles on the screen. There are 100 rounds in total.
•
Versus Battle!! (対戦で勝負だ!!): A 1 to 2-player competitive mode. It is a best-of-three match; the first to win two rounds wins the game. In single-player, you play against the computer. To play with two players, a separately sold "Link Cable" is required.
•
Record Challenge (記録にチャレンジ): A single-player challenge mode. Pop the bubbles that appear one after another and aim for a high score.
•
Look Back at the Past (過去をふりかえる): You can view your play results for each mode.
•
Custom Options (お好みオプション): You can change the in-game settings.
Shall I Play Alone? - Mode Selection
Selecting "Shall I Play Alone?" on the Mode Select screen will display a selection screen. Use the Y2 and Y4 buttons to move the cursor up and down to make your selection. Press any of the X1 to X4 buttons, START button, A button, or B button to confirm.
•
From the Beginning (さいしょから): Starts the game from Round 1. If you are playing for the first time, please select this option.
•
Continue (まえのつづき): Allows you to select from rounds you have already cleared. Use the Y1 to Y4 buttons to select a round, and press any of the X1 to X4 buttons, START button, A button, or B button to confirm.
•
Back (もどる): Returns to the Mode Select screen.
Shall I Play Alone? - How to Play
Clearing all the bubbles on the screen completes the round, and you proceed to the next round. Clearing the final round, Round 100, leads to the ending.
The bubble-launching guideline is only displayed on the round where you start the game. However, the guideline is only displayed up to Round 49.
Shall I Play Alone? - Ceiling
After launching a certain number of bubble balls, the screen will begin to shake. If you continue to launch bubble balls, the ceiling at the very top will drop down by one level.

Shall I Play Alone? - Special Bubbles
Special bubbles take effect the moment they are hit by any type of bubble ball.
•
Fire Bubble: When popped, it causes an explosion, clearing away surrounding bubbles.
•
Thunder Bubble: When popped, lightning shoots out, clearing away bubbles horizontally.
•
Water Bubble: When popped, water flows straight down, changing any bubbles it touches into the same type of bubble.
Shall I Play Alone? - Round 100 (Final Stage)
The final stage, Round 100, differs from the normal rules; you cannot clear it without defeating the boss. Throw bubble balls at the bubbles protecting the boss to deal damage.
Shall I Play Alone? - Continue
After a Game Over, the Continue screen will be displayed. Use the Y2 and Y4 buttons to move the cursor up and down to make your selection, then press any of the X1 to X4 buttons, START button, A button, or B button to confirm.
•
Do it!!: You can start from the round where you got a Game Over.
•
Don't do it: Your play results up to that point will be recorded, and the game will end.
Battle Match!! - Mode Selection
Selecting "Battle Match!!" on the Mode Select screen will display a selection screen. Use the Y2 and Y4 buttons to move the cursor up and down to choose which mode to start. Press any of the X1 to X4 buttons, START button, A button, or B button to confirm.
•
Computer-san: This is a mode where you battle against computer-controlled opponents. Defeating the first opponent will bring out a stronger challenger. Can you successfully win your way through and defeat the 10th opponent, "Skull Monster"?
•
Ningen-sama (Human-sama): This is a mode for two players to battle via link play using a Link Cable (sold separately). To enjoy this mode, you will need two WonderSwan consoles, two copies of the Puzzle Bobble game, and one Link Cable.
•
Return: Returns to the Mode Select screen.

Y2 Button
Points the bubble ball's launch direction (rudder) straight up.
Y1 Button
Moves the bubble ball's launch direction (rudder) to the left.
Y3 Button
Moves the bubble ball's launch direction (rudder) to the right.
START Button
Used to pause and resume the game.
X1 Button
Fine-tunes the bubble ball's launch direction (rudder) to the left.
X3 Button
Fine-tunes the bubble ball's launch direction (rudder) to the right.
X4 Button
Launches the bubble ball.
Tips & Maps
Make use of wall reflections!
Bubble balls reflect when they hit the left or right walls, which can be used to hit bubbles in the back and make the game much more advantageous.
Drop many bubbles at the same time!
Stick unwanted bubbles in places where they won't get in the way and clear them all at once. In versus matches, dropping more bubbles at the same time allows you to send more bubbles to your opponent.
Think before using special bubbles!
Using a special bubble does not necessarily mean you will gain an advantage, so think calmly and use them wisely to aim for a high score.
Understand the effect of the Thunder Bubble!
The lightning generated when a Thunder Bubble pops flies in the opposite direction of the steering rudder.
Understand the effect of the Water Bubble!
The bubbles that change due to a Water Bubble are limited to the type of bubble that is currently fewest on the field.
This is a handy soft reset!
If you want to end the game suddenly, you can perform a reset by pressing the START button, A button, and B button at the same time.
Play as 2P (Bobrun)!
If you start the game by pressing either the START button, A button, or B button, 2P play is possible, whereas pressing any of the X1 to X4 buttons allows you to enjoy 1P play.
