You play as a male or female nurse, recently graduated from university, and start your career in a small medical ward in Maryville. You soon find out why you got the job - you're the only nurse on call.
The gameplay is virtually identical across all platforms, with the main differences being 3D visuals for the Wii and PC, and pixel-art graphics for the DS. The music and sound effects also vary between versions, with a more retro approach on the DS and a more modern one on the others. However, the gameplay remains largely the same, without any platform-specific mechanics. Through a quick tutorial, you learn the basics: taking patients to triage/diagnosis, and then using your stylus, Wii-mote, or mouse for treatment.
Some patients demand more attention than others, and with limited equipment compared to the large number of in-patients, you have to juggle treatments, prescriptions, and clean-up phases. If you let too many patients leave angry, you'll lose money and have to start over (but they always let you try again since you're the only nurse available).
Hysteria Hospital: Emergency Ward has a casual atmosphere typical of Time Management games, with content and customisation options such as adding new medical equipment, sending patients to other centers via ambulance, buying items to keep in-patients happy, and changing your work uniform.
There's not much beyond this, and in the later levels, you'll have to spend as much as possible to tend to the highest number of patients.
You eventually become a legendary nurse.
Hysteria Hospital: Emergency Ward was released on June 26th, 2009, for the Wii console.
