Sega Superstars Tennis brings together some of Sega's most iconic franchises for a tennis tournament that takes players on a journey through 15 different worlds created by the company over the past 20 years. Sixteen characters from 15 different Sega games are represented, along with 10 unique courts inspired by these same game series.
Sega Superstars Tennis features both Exhibition and Tournament modes. The Exhibition mode allows players to compete against each other in simple vs matches, while the Tournament mode offers a more challenging experience where players can unlock new characters and courts as they progress through the tournament. Singles and doubles matches can be played with either humans or AI opponents, and players can choose their own doubles partner.
The game has some notable differences depending on the platform it's played on. The Wii version of Sega Superstars Tennis does not include online play, instead offering three different control modes using the Wii Remote, similar to Wii Sports tennis.
Sega Superstars Tennis ' characters each have their own special moves that can be used during matches. For example, Beat from Jet Set Radio has a power that allows the ball to grind against the net and shoot off at random points, making it difficult for opponents to return.
Sega Superstars Tennis also includes a variety of minigames that can be played as part of the tournament or as one-off challenges. These include Target-hitting games, zombie-killing modes inspired by The House of the Dead , Space Harrier , and other classic Sega franchises.
