Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag follows the story of Edward Kenway, a Welsh privateer living in the eighteenth century. He is hired by Abstergo Industries to relive fragments from the past and reports to Laureano Torres, the Governor of Cuba and Grand Master of the Templars. Initially motivated by greed, Edward finds himself at odds with both the Templars and the Assassins, who are pursuing a mysterious man known as the Sage in order to gain access to the secret technology of the First Civilization.
The game builds upon the modern-day story that started in Assassin's Creed III , introducing new elements while maintaining familiar gameplay mechanics. The game features free-form movement, building climbing, a mission-based system with main and secondary quests, weapon management, collecting, and an unchanged combat system.
The world of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag is larger than in any previous game, offering seamless exploration without transitions or loading. Players can explore much of the Caribbean Sea, including three full-fledged cities (Havana, Kingston, and Nassau), smaller settlements, and uninhabited islands. The protagonist can hunt animals, fish, and uncover treasure maps. Early in the game, Edward gains access to the Jackdaw, a ship that can be outfitted, upgraded, and used in naval battles.
Players can also recruit crew members for the ship and engage in naval battles against other ships. The game's world is rich in detail and offers a sense of freedom and adventure, making Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag an exciting addition to the series.
