Colin McRae Rally 04 is the fourth title in the series, with the player now able to choose their vehicle. The game features improved graphics and a new physics engine that makes handling more realistic. This change results in four pivot points for each wheel, allowing them to interact independently.
The gameplay modes include four championships: 2WD, 4WD, Group B, and Expert. 2WD is suitable for beginners, while 4WD provides an intermediate challenge. Group B features old cars that were banned due to their unrestricted nature, offering extreme acceleration. The Expert mode is the most difficult, with players racing from a cockpit view and experiencing high damage.
Players can participate in eight national rallies, including events in the USA, Australia, UK, Finland, Japan, and Greece. There are over 20 cars available to unlock, including the Team Ford Transit van.
