The Tour de France is an arcade racing game based on the premier road cycling event in the world.
The game features 5 different game modes, including Arcade and Tour de France. In Tour de France mode, the player aims to win the prestigious competition over five years by training and winning enough money to improve their bike parts and training sessions.
Controlling a bike is not just about pressing down the throttle button and avoiding other competitors. The player must pace according to the stamina of the rider. While replenishing stamina using water bottles can help, it's essential to use downward slopes to gain velocity while recovering stamina and taking advantage of the slipstream of other riders.
However, if a rider loses all their stamina, they will stop and put a foot down until it recovers to an acceptable level. This makes any chance of a good result impossible, as the race will stop once the damage (sustained by hitting other riders or fences at high speeds) exceeds half of the stamina bar.
The game was released for Xbox in 2002 and is classified as a Sports title.
