The official game of the Games of the XXIX Olympiad, Beijing 2008 , features 32 national teams in 38 events for both men and women on a varied number of disciplines, played in truthful representations of the stadiums that hosted the real Games in the summer of 2008 such as the Birds' Nest or the Watercube.
The gameplay is similar to other sports games in the genre, with button mashing and timing making up the core of the gameplay. Some events have innovative mechanics, like sprinting and swimming where players must control a bar with the trigger buttons. In Judo, players must react quickly to on-screen cues to gain an advantage during grappling phase. The game also features Table Tennis, where players must be perfectly timed to respond with shots.
The game modes include practice, regular competition, random events, Decathlon or Heptathlon, and the Olympics. The Olympic mode is more complex, featuring challenges each day with increasing difficulty and required successes. Players must assign points to various areas, such as speed, technique, or accuracy, and trigger when required to progress. Failing to reach goals forces players to reload the game.
