The gameplay involves primarily close-quarters fighting, but you will stumble upon long-range weapons such as pistols, shotguns, rifles and so on. As for the melee weapons, everything can be used as a weapon. New attacks have been added to the game, including Environment Kill and Chain Attack. The environment is used as a final blow in the former, while the latter is like a combo system.

Ethan Thomas works under SCU (Serial Crime Unit) again, with his Forensic Tools returning this time, but with a twist - you'll have to choose which gadget to use for each crime scene. The Accomplish Points system also returns, increasing in value depending on how well or poorly you finish a level.

Unlike the first game, there is now a multiplayer section for up to eight players, featuring different modes such as deathmatch, team deathmatch, bomb rush and crime scenes. Players can choose between SCU agents and Influenced individuals, with the latter needing to hide evidence that must be tracked down by the former.
