The game Jericho is based on an ancient prophecy about a powerful being known as the Firstborn, which is said to break through into the mortal world seven times. This has already happened six times, and now the city of Al-Khali trembles as the Firstborn enters the world for the seventh time.
The player takes control of one of seven members of a special team known as the Jericho Squad, each with their own unique abilities and weapons. The squad must work together to defeat the Firstborn and save humanity. The game features a mix of first-person shooter action and puzzle-solving elements. Gameplay is straightforward, but the twist comes when players can take over one of their teammates, giving them full control for a short time. The team also has two roles: "Hold" and "Follow", which allows for strategic positioning and tactics during missions.
The game's health system is similar to other first-person shooters, with no health packs scattered around the map. Players must search for cover to regenerate, and if they're hit badly enough, they'll go down unless healed quickly by their teammates or a medic like Captain Ross or Father Paul Rawlings.
Clive Barker, creator of the Hellraiser movies, had a significant influence on the game's art direction and background story. However, Jericho is not a direct sequel to his previous work, Clive Barker's Undying.
