The story of Jericho begins with an ancient prophecy that speaks of the Firstborn, a powerful entity that will break through into the mortal world seven times, bringing destruction and chaos. The prophecy foretells that only seven mystics, known as the Jericho Squad, can stop this process by sacrificing themselves to drive it back into the abyss. This has already happened six times, but now the Firstborn is returning for a final attempt.
Players take on the role of one of the seven members of the Jericho Squad, each with unique abilities and playstyles. As they journey through the city of Al-Khali, they uncover a rich background story and art direction inspired by Clive Barker's works. The game is a first-person shooter with a focus on teamwork and strategy, as players can switch between team members to utilize their abilities and overcome challenges.
The gameplay is reminiscent of other shooters like Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas and Call of Duty 2, with a health system that requires players to find cover to regenerate. However, some squad members, such as Captain Devin Ross and Father Paul Rawlings, can heal wounded teammates, adding an extra layer of strategy to the game.
The ultimate goal is to defeat the Firstborn in a final battle or find eternal freedom. Along the way, players must navigate through the city, completing objectives and fighting off enemies to reach the heart of Al-Khali. With its unique blend of action, adventure, and horror elements, Jericho promises an exciting experience for fans of first-person shooters.
Jericho is available on the PlayStation 3 console, released on October 23, 2007.
