Wolfenstein: The New Order is back, returning one of the oldest first-person shooter franchises to its roots. Wolfenstein 3D veteran William "B.J." Blazkowicz takes center stage as he chases down his arch-nemesis General Wilhelm "Deathshead" Strasse in a desperate bid to cripple the Nazi war machine. However, things don't go according to plan, and Blazkowicz finds himself mortally wounded and left for dead. Fourteen years pass before Blazkowicz awakens in an asylum in Poland, where he must navigate a treacherous world under Nazi rule. With the war won by the Nazis, Blazkowicz sets out to reignite the flames of rebellion, freeing his friends from the Kreisau Circle and toppling the regime.
The gameplay is fast-paced and violent, with players able to hold multiple weapons at once and dual wield them with ease. The arsenal includes traditional firearms, as well as more exotic gear like electricity spewing grenades and lasers. A useful tool called the Laser Cutter allows for access to alternate paths and secret areas.
Enemies range from standard Nazi soldiers to power-armed foes and even bio-mechanical creatures that blend flesh with technology. Players have the option to take a stealthy approach, using silenced weapons and knives to silently eliminate enemies or brutal backstabbing takedowns.
The game features a perk tree, where players can level up based on challenges like killing enemies silently or while under heavy health strain. Perks come in different categories, allowing for a tailored play style.
As with previous games in the series, Wolfenstein: The New Order includes secrets to collect, including full maps, notes and letters providing backstory, Enigma Codes unlocking special game modes, and Nazi gold and treasure.
