Halo: The Master Chief Collection is a collection of remastered games that brings together the entire story of Master Chief. It includes Halo 2: Anniversary , as well as remastered versions of Halo: Combat Evolved - Anniversary , Halo 3 and Halo 4 . For the first time, all campaign missions and multiplayer maps from these games are available on one console.
The collection features a unified user interface that allows users to easily jump between the different games. This also enables multiplayer playlists with maps from all five games. The addition of Campaign Playlists lists various settings such as difficulty level, skull selections, and scoring settings, allowing players to customize their experience.
Halo: Combat Evolved - Anniversary is a re-release of the original game, intended to celebrate its tenth anniversary. Players can switch between two graphics engines, allowing for identical graphics or more modern graphics, even in mid-session. The campaign also supports cooperative gameplay with both split-screen and online options.
The multiplayer portion of Halo: Combat Evolved - Anniversary is divided into two sections. One section features the original game's multiplayer unchanged, while the other offers an updated version with remastered graphics and new gameplay features such as Forge and File Sharing.
Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary , Halo 3 , and Halo 4 run on adapted versions of their original engines, allowing them to run at modern 1080p 60fps. For the first time, Halo: Combat Evolved also features online multiplayer through Xbox Live.
A free DLC item, Halo: The Master Chief Collection - Halo 3: ODST, was added on May 30th 2015 for those who played the collection before December 19th, 2014. It became available as commercial DLC later.
A free DLC item, Halo: Reach, was added on December 3rd 2019 for everyone who played the collection release before a specified date. The other parts needed to be purchased separately.
A new version of Halo: The Master Chief Collection was released on December 3rd, 2019, bundled with two DLC items by default. It included Halo 3: ODST and Halo: Reach .
