Dark Souls III is set in the Kingdom of Lothric, where a lone Unkindled must embark on a perilous journey to find the fallen Lords of Cinder. As they search for their missing counterparts, the First Flame begins to fade, threatening the very existence of the world. The game is the fourth installment in the Souls franchise, with Demon's Souls being its spiritual predecessor. Players can expect a rich narrative with many references to previous games, as well as familiar locations and items from across the series.
Dark Souls III ' gameplay remains true to the series' roots, while also incorporating elements from Bloodborne . The player chooses one of 10 available classes at the start, customizing their character's appearance. The game features a faster pace than the first Dark Souls game but not as fast-paced as Bloodborne . Players must still execute planned blocking and dodging maneuvers to wait for an opportunity to counterattack.
The level design returns to its familiar formula of interconnected paths and hidden secrets. The covenant system and multiplayer mode are also back, allowing players to interact with one another in the same way as before, including invasions and co-op.
