Dying Light

The focus is on melee weapons and crafting items by gathering supplies. The game features a stamina bar that prevents continuous hitting, and guns can be used, but sound attracts others. As players progress through the game, their character's abilities can be leveled up in skill trees for agility, power, and survival. There are often large groups of zombies that can be taken out from heights using projectiles or triggering traps. The gameplay emphasizes escaping using parkour mechanics rather than stealth.

Progress through the city is furthered by unlocking safe zones where zombies cannot enter. During the day, Crane mainly needs to scavenge, locate and save survivors, explore, set up traps, and locate air drops. At night, the slow zombies become more agile, doing more damage, sprinting, and chasing Crane. The game's pace changes with a focus on stealth as enemies can easily catch up. Experience points are doubled at night, aside from traps, sound, and distractions.

The game offers an online co-op mode for up to four players. In the Be the Zombie mode, one player-controlled Night Hunter can invade another player's game at night, and up to four players can work together to defeat it.
