The story follows Ultra Magnus, who is tasked with uncovering the secret of Convoy no nazo , also known as Optimus Prime in most parts of the world. As he journeys through a series of platform-style worlds, he must face off against various bosses, including Megatron and other Decepticon enemies.

The gameplay revolves around Ultra Magnus's transformations between robot and trailer modes. In robot mode, Magnus can jump far but his shots have limited range. Pressing down allows him to transform into a trailer, which grants him the ability to pass below planes and shoot upwards. When a plane is defeated, it transforms into a robot that must be killed using the forward-pointing shot. As the game progresses, the platform elements become more prominent.
