The story of Valkyria Chronicles 2 takes place two years after the events of the first game. The player is once again involved with the Union army, fighting against the Empire. The Empire has launched a surprise attack on the city of Eizenstadt, and it's up to the player to lead the Union forces to victory.
The gameplay in Valkyria Chronicles 2 is similar to its predecessor, but with some new features. The game uses the PS Portable's touch screen to control the character movements. The game also introduces a new "Tactical Commander" system, which allows players to issue commands to their troops from above. This adds a new layer of strategy to the gameplay.
