Blockids , a Breakout variant, offers a unique gaming experience with multiple camera angles. Instead of the traditional top-down view, the game features an isometric camera angle, a behind-the-paddle camera angle, and a track-the-ball's-movement camera angle.
Players can choose from one of six characters in Adventure mode, tasked with reclaiming 5 magic crystals by beating stages and boss monsters at every 10th stage. To progress through the levels, players must bounce a ball off a paddle to break blocks, arranged in different formations depending on the stage. Each character has their own special power meter, which can be filled up by hitting several blocks in succession. These powers include Super-Extend, Ball Catcher, and Power Ball, among others.
Power-ups are also available, such as speeding up or slowing down the ball, a 1up for extra lives, and an instant-clear power-up to complete stages quickly. However, players only have two lives and three continues before the game is over. The Challenge mode offers a similar experience to Adventure mode, but with infinite continues throughout its 100 stages.
Blockids was released on the PlayStation on 2003-08-04 .
