The game lets you control any European national team in various ways. You can create your own character and play on the field to become a good enough captain for your team, similar to the "be a pro" mode from FIFA 08.

Players can also try different challenges and tournament modes to unlock extras or test their abilities. Options include playing through the full championship experience, skipping ahead to the group stages, or clearing challenges in an extensive mode to make your nation the best in European football.

The PC and console versions differ significantly, with the Xbox 360 and Playstation 2 versions featuring improved graphics and control systems, while the PC version retains a more basic look and feel from previous years.
