Pure puts the player behind the handlebars of an All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) - better known as a Quad Bike, but instead of just choosing one from a pre-existing ensemble, he has to build his own Quad Bikes from scratch himself. From the suspension over the engine to the form and color of the handle bars, he has many options to choose from.
By playing through the game's World Tour single player campaign, the player unlocks additional parts by winning events and collecting flags hidden on the track. Some parts are purely cosmetic and don't change the bike's stats, while others have a significant impact and come in different versions for racing or freestyle modes. Deciding which parts to use greatly influences how the Quad Bike behaves, especially during boosts.
Each trick performed by the player gives them more or less boost, depending on its quality and other factors. The boost can be used to gain a temporary speed advantage, but it also affects what tricks can be performed. At the start of the race, only basic tricks are available, while advanced and professional tricks become unlocked as boost is gained.
Game modes like racing and sprint focus on reaching first place, whereas freestyle mode focuses on performing tricks to earn points. The player must time their trick performances to maximize points, with a timer counting down after each successful trick. Power-ups scattered around the track can also be used to perform special tricks or gain an advantage.
The game's racing modes end when all players run out of fuel, leaving the player with the most points as the winner. With its unique blend of building and racing mechanics, Pure offers a challenging and rewarding experience for ATV enthusiasts.
