Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed finds Sonic and friends battling against Dr. Robotnik once again. This time, he plans to harness the power of Chaos, a malevolent being that feeds on the energy of the Chaos Emeralds. The heroes must band together to save Station Square and potentially the world.
The game features five playable characters, each with their unique level designs. Sonic's levels focus on racing through the course as quickly as possible while destroying robots. Tails' levels involve hovering over long distances and beating opponents to the finish line. Amy's levels require her to navigate obstacles using a giant hammer, avoiding capture by Dr. Robotnik's robotic minions. E102 Gamma is a challenging robot that demands precision and strategy, with its guns and missiles targeting multiple targets at once. Big the Cat's levels are more relaxed, focusing on fishing for his lost frog.
As players progress through the game, they can unlock items that enhance their abilities, such as Sonic's ring power-up or improved lures for Big. Each character has access to a Chao garden, where they can raise and care for baby Chaos, strengthening it through petting, feeding, and showing them certain animals found in levels.
Additionally, each level features additional objectives that can be completed to earn extra emblems. Although these emblems don't have any functionality in this version of the game, they add to the overall replay value. It's also worth noting that online downloads for new levels and bonuses were previously available through SegaNet, but are no longer accessible since its shutdown.
