The NBA Jam Tournament Edition brings fast-paced and action-packed basketball gameplay to your GameBoy. The game lets you play two-on-two arcade basketball with players from all the NBA teams, featuring a unique and exciting style that sets it apart from other sports games. The game has a simple yet addictive storyline where you compete against teams from various NBA teams in a tournament-style format. Your goal is to win the championship by defeating all the opposing teams, each with their own strengths and weaknesses.
Gameplay is focused on scoring points quickly and efficiently, as fouls are not present in this arcade-style game. Players are rated on eight ability categories, from steals and blocks to dunks and 3-pointers, allowing for a high level of strategy and skill. You can play with up to four human players, each controlling one player from their team, or against AI-controlled missing players.
The Tournament Edition version introduces new features such as substitutions between quarters, injuries that lower a player's stats if you shove them, and the option to enable special game modes like "Hot Spots", Powerup icons, "Juice Mode", and "Tournament Mode".
