Terminator , released in 1991 for the Sega Game Gear, is an action & adventure game that follows the storyline of T2: Judgment Day . Players control Kyle Reese, who must protect Sarah Connor from a group of robotic killers sent back in time. The game's story takes place in both future and present levels, with players navigating through different environments such as post-apocalyptic battlefields and human hideouts.
The gameplay involves up to two players shooting at robots using machine guns that have limited ammo, which can be replenished by collecting power-ups. As the machine gun is fired continuously, its firing rate increases (overheats) and must be lowered in order to prevent overheating. The game features seven levels based on scenes or concepts from the film, with increasing difficulty as the player progresses.
Assets from the movie are used in the game, including voice clips and digital stills of actors. The Genesis and SNES versions support lightguns for added immersion. Overall, Terminator is a challenging action-adventure game that stays faithful to the original film's storyline.
