Grind Stormer , released on the Sega Genesis in 1994, offers two distinct modes: Grind Stormer and V Five . Both share the same levels and enemies but differ in their approach to power-ups. In this fast-paced top-down shooter, players can collect power-ups such as missiles, shields, and speed boosts, which grant an unlimited firing rate.
In Grind Stormer , the ship moves at a high speed, allowing for quick collection of bombs that clear the screen and deflect bullets. In contrast, V Five takes inspiration from the Gradius series, with players advancing through a selection of power-ups by collecting tokens. Power-ups are applied instantly in the first mode, while in the second mode, the ship is slower, and players must decide when to use speed-boosting power-ups.
The game's difficulty, number of lives, and continues can be adjusted in the options menu. Upon using a continue, players receive a "Special" power-up granting four wingmen.
