Herzog Zwei is a strategy game where two opposing forces clash with each other. Each player controls a jet airplane that can zoom across the screen and transform into a ground-based soldier. These soldiers can attack enemy units, but not their bases. To capture enemy bases scattered across the map, players must purchase new units and transport them to specific positions. The player takes on more of a logistical role, managing different types of units rather than being a direct combatant. If the plane is destroyed, it restarts at the player's base location.
Gameplay involves planning and resource management, as players must strategically place their units to gain control of territory. The game requires careful consideration of unit strengths, weaknesses, and movement ranges to outmaneuver the opponent. With each level completed, the ultimate goal is to capture the enemy base, making Herzog Zwei a challenging and rewarding strategy experience.
