It Came from the Desert is a remake of the 1989 Amiga game of the same name, but with many changes and improvements. The basic setting was kept the same. It's an action-adventure mix, inspired by cult-horror B-Movies of the 50's and 60's, and the 1954 film Them in particular.
The player takes on the role of Dr. Greg Bradley, a geologist who has just moved to town. He wants to satisfy his curiosity, so he sets out to investigate the crash site of a mysterious meteor. But what he finds is not what he expected.
It Came from the Desert was made for the TurboGrafx CD console by NEC to show off its new CD-ROM format. A team that included developers from the original game created this version. They turned the old graphics into full-motion video, using real actors to act out scenes, and then added full speech.
The player's input decides what happens next in the game, mainly where to go or what to do. The conversation parts were not used again. The game has a mix of live footage, drawn side-scrolling sequences, top-down action sequences, and moments where the player must aim to take out other characters.
