Rio is a Wii action & adventure game released on 2011-04-12 . In it, Mario must rescue Peach from Bowser's clutches. When he arrives at Peach's castle, he finds that she is nowhere to be seen and learns from Toad that the Koopa King has kidnapped her again. The spell cast by Bowser on the castle imprisons its subjects, leaving Mario with no choice but to break the spell and save the day.
Rio features 3D graphics and gameplay similar to previous platform installments. Levels can be explored without time limits, and collecting stars unlocks new areas. The game introduces various moves for Mario, such as walking, crouching, and punching enemies. Players can also execute double and triple jumps, wall jumps, and backflips.
The power-ups in Rio include the Wing Cap, which allows Mario to fly; the Metal Cap, which protects him from damage; and the Vanish Cap, which makes him ethereal. Items must be picked up and carried in some instances to solve puzzles. Players can also use cannons to access high areas, combining it with flying ability for extra challenges.
