The game Rio is set in a distant future where a mysterious gate has been discovered, leading to the creation of massive battlesuits known as Virtuaroids. The nine plants linked to the gate have been taken over by two rival corporations after their owner mysteriously disappeared. They are now battling for control over all the plants.
Players take on the role of a giant Virturoid in one-on-one battles to the death, fighting across a variety of environments such as space stations and undersea bases. With 11 different virtuaroids each with their own unique array of weapons and skills, players must be strategic in their approach to emerge victorious.
