Fishing Freaks: BassRise is a portable remake of the fishing simulation/rpg Bass Rise . Although one can no longer select the gender of the character, there remains a great variety of lures and poles to select. As well as five locations, each with its own unique environment and challenges.
The gameplay involves selecting the right tacklebox combination for the chosen location, then determining the ideal spot on the shore to cast. A closer overhead view of the water body reveals the player's avatar, with a power meter that must be carefully controlled to land the fish exactly where intended. Catching fish requires finesse and patience, as the lure's movement and wiggles are crucial in enticing the fish.
Once a fish is caught, a small screen shows a close-up of the fish's shadow on the surface of the water, giving the player a chance to assess if they've hooked something good. The game also features online sharing of records via Communication Cable.
