The future is bleak on the planet Allium, where global warming has ravaged the land. The polar ice caps have melted, leaving behind a shrinking habitable landmass that has led to a desperate struggle for survival among the island chains. Land is the most valuable resource on the planet, and the entire population must compete to stay alive.

The two main civilizations on Allium, the Forseti and Muspell, are engaged in an uneasy cease-fire. The Forseti have recently developed the Battle Engine Aquila , a powerful combat vehicle that can switch between four-legged tank mode and combat jet mode at will. Players take on the role of Hawk Winter, a Forseti cargo loader operator who has been conscripted due to his piloting skills.

Battle Engine Aquila is a mechanized shooter that takes place in a larger battlefield. The player's role is crucial in the war effort, and much of the gameplay involves supporting and being supported by allied forces. The action unfolds on both land, sea, and air fronts, as players fight against naval, air, and ground forces using their Battle Engine Aquila .
