Basic Controls
Perform Boneless, Fastplants, and Beanplants by tapping ↕ ↕ then releasing the B Button to jump higher. For a No Comply, tap ↕ then release the B Button.
Switch between Normal and Switch stances by tapping the R Button. To get up faster after bailing, repeatedly hit the A, B, L, or R Buttons.
Movement and Air Control
While in the air, double tap ↖ ↖ or ↗ ↗ to perform a 180-degree spin. To brake, hold the Control Pad ↓ to slow down and eventually stop.
You automatically move in the direction you are facing. Hold the B Button to crouch for a speed boost; releasing it performs an ollie, so time the release for air.
Rotate direction on the ground by holding Control Pad ← or →. Be aware that your skater turns to his or her left or right, not necessarily yours. Hold ◀ or ▶ for a sharp turn.
Main Menu
The Main Menu presents five options to select your game type. Use the Control Pad to scroll and change settings, then press START to begin. Press B to return to a previous menu.
Skater Selection
Choose your skater on the Select Skater menu. Try every level with each skater, as they have unique abilities: Vert skaters get bigger air, while Street skaters have better balance on manuals and grinds.
Use the L and R Buttons to rotate the skater for a better look. Once selected, pick a game mode, level, or adjust options, then press START.
Save Data
The game automatically saves your Career after skating a level. Data for all skaters is saved each time you finish a session, so manual saving is not required.
Tutorial Mode
Tutorial Mode consists of twelve instructional sessions to teach game basics. We recommend trying as many as possible to learn the tools needed for high scores. You can also practice in the tutorial level at your own pace.
Instructional text and trick demonstrations appear when the Tutorial begins. Hold R to slow the action and text, or hold L to fast forward.
Career Mode
Career Mode is for completing goals, upgrading skaters, and unlocking levels. The game automatically saves progress as you complete goals, which vary from level to level.
Press START during gameplay to access the Pause Menu, then select View Goals to track completed and pending objectives.
Free Skate
Free Skate allows you to explore unlocked levels with no time limit. It is a great way to learn ramps and grind lines, though it is "just for fun" and cannot achieve high scores.
Only the score of the current trick is displayed. However, gaps found in Free Skate count toward the gap checklist.
Single Session
Single Session is a timed run of a level. While no goals can be achieved, you can earn a high score. Gaps found in this mode also count toward the gap checklist.
Multiplayer Overview
Supported modes include Hotseat (one GBA) and Linked play (multiple GBAs with a Game Link® Cable). Linked play requires a Game Link® Cable and a copy of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater™ 3 GBA for each system. Linked play supports two to four players. If you lack a cable, you can still play HORSE in Hotseat mode by taking turns.
Setting Up Multiplayer
Select Multiplayer from the Main Menu and press START. You can choose a game mode; without a cable, only HORSE is available.
Game Modes
TRICK ATTACK is a free-for-all to achieve the highest points within the time limit. Run into opponents to knock them down and win.
In TAG, the player with the lowest score in the first ten seconds is 'IT'. Being 'IT' longer causes you to lose. Do tricks to slow others down or score big to make it easier for them to be tagged.
In KING OF THE HILL, find the crown to become the King. Your score counts up while you hold it, but you skate slower. Run into the King to steal the crown; holding it for the preset limit wins.
FREE SKATE allows you to skate with friends with no time limit or objectives. HORSE involves players attempting tricks to score points; the lowest scorer receives a letter toward the word HORSE.
Handicaps
Adjust the Handicap in the multiplayer menu to add challenges. Highlight the Handicap and push Control Pad ➜ to increase stats for an advantage, or ⬅ to lower them for a challenge.
Press START to begin after choosing a mode. If playing HORSE, specify the player count. Otherwise, the game auto-detects linked cables.
If issues arise, reset all GBAs, ensure cables are secure, and retry. Refer to page 28 for cable instructions.
Trial Mode
Trial Mode challenges you to complete all level objectives within five minutes. The quickest completion time is recorded on the Skate Shop scoreboard.
Note that Trial Mode must be unlocked by completing level goals in Career Mode.
Skate Shop
Access the Skate Shop to change appearance, equipment, or check career status. Use the following options from this menu.
Change Outfit cycles through skaters using Control Pad ← and →. Press A to select and modify outfits. Select CUSTOM SKATER to modify all clothes, creating up to four outfits for a custom skater. Use Control Pad ↓/↑ to scroll and ←/→ to change appearance.
Edit Tricks allows you to change special trick controls or assign new specials earned via gold medals. Original specials are locked.
Edit Stats lets you allocate stat points collected in Career Mode. You can only add new
