Psychic Force , released on 4 October 1996 for the PlayStation, is a one-on-one fighting game with a unique twist. The matches take place inside a giant floating cube, where you can fly around a 3D arena with six walls using your psychic abilities. There are ten available characters, each controlled with three buttons: guard, weak attack and strong attack. The effect varies with the distance, and you have a power meter that drains when using special moves.
Each fighter has unique moves, energy attacks and a weapon they use mid-flight to attack their opponent. The game features three main modes: training, versus, and a story mode using static anime-inspired images and in-engine cut scenes. The story revolves around two groups of psychics with differing ideals about co-existence with humans.
The PlayStation version, renamed Psychic Force , adds the three missing characters from the first game, a psy-expand mode for special battles, and an anime intro video. It also lowers the CPU fighters' difficulty and makes some control adjustments. The graphics were notably degraded compared to other ports.
